After coming to India from Dubai, Vijay started working as an accountant and joined a theater group named Koothu P Pattarai. Now neither this happened suddenly nor did he have any dream that he is going to be an actor. We have to walk a few years back to know how these happened when Vijay was in school. He auditioned for Namwar in 1994 where he was rejected, but director Balu Mahendra said that his face is photogenic, meaning that there was little chance of becoming an actor. Vijay joined the theater as an accountant and actor to explore this possibility.
Years passed and he slowly started getting some background roles. From 2004 to 2009, he did small roles in films without credits, in which he became a player of football or kabaddi and sometimes a boxing audience. After all this, his life took a turn and he got his first lead role.
In 2010, he got the role of the main protagonist in "Thenmerku Paruvekatru" after a long struggle. However, he would have made his debut as a lead actor a little earlier if Akhara had been released in a movie theater. But this film named Akhada could never be released.
Though belatedly, Vijay made his debut as a lead actor in 2010. He was also in the lead role in the 2011 film "Varnam". However, both these roles were not able to fully do justice to their talent. Then came the film "Sundarpandian".
The film received the Tamil Nadu State Film Award. Vijay was playing the role of a villain in this film. After this award, he was also nominated for the Filmfare Best Actor Award for his next film "Pizza". His film "Pizza" won many more awards including the Best Tamil Feature Film Award.
